An engine cannot function properly without the all the components it needs. At the same time an engine cannot function properly without all its parts in its designated spot. At the corresponding time an engine will not function properly when it is not tuned. KIS sports team face the similar problems as those engine creators. We have many different factors that determine how good our sports team play. We have to determine, and fix our own sport gaps that keeps us from failing.
The majority students of Korea International School are Koreans ethnically. One of practices used everyday by Koreans is to respect your elders. As you all may have noticed, this is one of the reasons why students from different grades do not get along well with each other in our school. One of the most important factor that holds the team is knowing your team mates. However, not all players in a certain team tend to be from the same grade. Players from different grades are often separated and they merely talk to each other, during practice and in general everyday school life. In some cases like the Cross-country team, we are even separated by gender. Even the Korean language itself is powerful to deliver the meaning of its culture, which segregates grades especially.
Most people only respond to incentives. Most people in the sports team joined for the hope of an award, to write sports on their resume, to have fun. Have any of you joined a sports team for the sake of your school? Our school lacks school spirit! If our school’s school spirit was stronger, then it would play a bigger role in this school. Students would be more than happy to donate their skills to the team for the price of their study time. Others might be willing to help out with the sports games. Some others might even come to just to cheer the sports team, which does not happen often. As a student body, we should promote school spirit.
Many students stress out and they tend to have a bad exercise habit. As I know, most people do not exercise on their own. From my knowledge of the past year, most people respond by saying “I have too much homework today,” “I have a project due tomorrow,” or something else. Then why did you have time back in the sports season? Students in our school lack caring for their own health. As a result Basketball and soccer has introduced students to early try outs/practice.
Conclusion - other sports should also promoted early practice and try outs for a full whole year.
Students should come to realize the problem of our sports team. Teachers should help enforce the English only policy, as for the SCA should promote school spirit.
Think about it! You can be the change! As for me, I will create a club, Cross-Country, stay in shape club(with Clemens =]).
